Okay, so I have a queen-sized shikibuton, two queen-sized tatami mats underneath it, and a thin sheet-like sleeve-type cover that zips up. My living space is odd because the bathroom used to have a door but doesn’t anymore so the humidity is probably above average in my room, but it’s nothing crazy, like the mirror and windows don’t fog up or anything, but there definitely is some steam present. (I’m fairly skinny and am nineteen but have some breathing issues so standing for long periods of time can make me lightheaded, and this in conjunction with breathing in a ton of steam basically guarantees me passing out, so I take baths which generate significantly much less steam than showers.)
So based on my environment described I’d like to know how to best care for my shikibuton, and if I can leave the thin cover on it while sunning/airing it out.

Here are some photos of the living space and shikibuton along with the cover I mentioned:
(Also sorry for the clutter in the photos.)

They need to be thoroughly aired quite frequently. You’ll notice that families in Japan have them slung over the side of the veranda to air out EVERY day that doesn’t have rain or snow in the forecast
A dehumidifier would combat mildew growth
