Advice 9 Days Tokyo/Kyoto/Osaka in March

Hello everyone!

I am 29 years old and planning to travel alone to Japan in March.

My priorities:

1. Food
2. Anime/Manga
3. Culture
4. Nature
5. Museum

I created a plan for the 9 day and wanted to know if this is possible. I never been to japan before.

My plan does not includes food places because I want to search for this places for myself in japan. Also I know that maybe some of the days are not 100% filled. I plan extra time for “just exploring” the area. I like to have more pauses in cafes and enjoy the area than just working off a detailed planned list.

I was not sure if this is detailed enough for the itinerary post so I put it in advice.

**8.3**

Flight from Germany to Haneda

**9.3**

* Landing in Haneda 5 P.M.
* buying Suica Cart and mobile wifi (Japan Experience)
* driving to hotel with the train (Hotel not booked yet but probably in Akihabara)
* After Check-In -> discovering the area and just eating

This day is planned to be not that special. Just buying stuff I need, check-in and eating somewhere nearby. I dont know how my body will handle the jetlag.

**10.3**

* Imperial Palace
* Shopping trip in Akihabara
* Pokemon Cafe/Center
* Owl Cafe

So most time here would be just walking around this area and discovering stuff.

**11.3**

* Tokyo Skytree
* Jump Store
* Sensoji Temple
* Kappabashi Street
* National Museum

**12.3**

* Tokyo Tower
* teamLab Planets
* Ghibli Musuem (Question for that at the end)

**13.3**

* Shopping and discovering in Shibuya
* Metropolitan Government Building
* Hedgehog Cafe
* Shinjuku Gyoen Park
* Sunshine City Mall
* Meiji Shrine

**14.3**

On this day I want to do a day tip to Mt. Fuji.
Question at the end for this one.

**15.3**

* 8 A.M ticket to Kyoto
* After check-in in Hotel similar to first day in Tokyo: discovering my area
* (Kyoto my hotel is not planned )
* Nishiki market

**16.3**

* Fushimi Inari
* Arashiyama Bamboo Forest
* Kinkaku-ji

This is mostly “see much as you can” day. I just wrote down the most important places I want to visit. I am not sure if this fills a day or not. But again it is not a problem if its not because I like to be more spontaneous in this cases.

**17.3**

In this day I want to travel to Osaka with the train. In Osaka I just want to to food stuff in Dotonbori.And again more discovering than planning.

Later the day with train back to Tokyo.

**18.3**

Flight back to Germany from Haneda

**First Question**:

I know that I cannot buy ticket outside of japan for the Ghibli Studio. But I also read it is possible to let someone else book it

[https://www.japanawaits.com/experiences/studio-ghibli-museum/](https://www.japanawaits.com/experiences/studio-ghibli-museum/)

Is this already tried? Does it work.

Or just book after you arrive. ( still possible after 5 P.M. HND ? )Ghibli Museum is very important so if you have more tips how it can be booked from germany it would be nice !

**Second Question**:

For my day trip to Mt. Fuji I plan to travel back to Tokyo and take the train next day to Kyoto.Does this makes more sense or would it be better that I travel right after Fuji to Kyoto?

**Third Question**:

Japan Rail Pass -> does it makes sense for me?

My train routes would be:

Tokyo -> Mt. Fuji -> Tokyo -> Kyoto -> Osaka -> Tokyo

  1. I think adding Osaka/Kyoto to your schedule is a bad idea financially and use of time. Better just leave Kansai area (Osaka/Kyoto) for your next trip.

    Why not rather stay the whole time in Akihabara? Not only is your anime stuff close to you, Akihabara station connects many different train lines, so moving to new areas is convenient with less connections and headache understanding how the stations and train lines work.

    I think 9 days is a good amount of time for Tokyo. I remember my first trip to Japan/Tokyo was 1 week and I felt like it wasn’t quite enough. There’s lots to see. My weeb friend managed to spend two full days just in Akihabara exploring and thoroughly scope out the stores. Also there are restaurants open late, so you can eat well outside even after midnight.

    Culture? Lots of temples to see, albeit very touristy, though that applies to anywhere popular too.

    Nature? Do a day trip to Mount Takao or check out the large beautiful parks in Tokyo.

    You can skip Metropolitan Government Building and replace it with Shibuya SKY for a much better experience.

    If you’re adamant on going to Osaka/Kyoto, then at least fly away from Osaka, instead of going back to Tokyo. You’re just wasting time and money with a return bullet train ride.
