General rule reminder for all you folks posting in /r/JapanTravel.
**Rule #1: Posts must relate to travel and tourism inside Japan.**
This means that posts about:
* flights into/out of Japan
* purpose of stay other than tourism (with the exception of sightseeing or travel-related issues)
* general travel-related questions (luggage, clothing) without context of a proper itinerary
* general discussions about Japanese society
will be removed. Some quickfire questions can be asked in a weekly discussion thread or in sub’s redddit.
**Rule #2: No low effort posts.**
No asking/begging for tips. No playing ‘lost sheep’. No posts about issues that can be sorted out by browsing content on our [resource page](https://www.reddit.com/r/JapanTravel/wiki/resources).
This includes no low-effort questions about JR Pass viability. You need to calculate the viability of JR Pass or regional passes via using tools at your disposal. Jorudan, Navitime, Ekispert are good tools. Our [wiki on JR Pass (and regional passes)](https://www.reddit.com/r/JapanTravel/wiki/advice/transport/jrpass/) is extremely comprehensive.
This also includes no posts on ‘should I get Suica/Pasmo’, luggage services in the airports, general posts about luggage forwarding services, layovers, or separate threads about SIMs, eSIMs, Pocket Wifis. All the info is really available folks.
Repetitive questions about Golden Route (Tokyo – Kyoto/Osaka – Hiroshima), Hokuriku Arch (Nagano-Kanazawa), Takayama and Sapporo/Niseko will be removed. Questions to which answers can be reasonably found in the threads posted in last few days can be removed. Questions about 2-3 off the beat/rural stay between Tokyo and Kansai can be removed (because they have been answered a thousand times).
Again quickfire questions can be asked in discussion thread or Discord.
If you want a general discussion on one of this subjects – post in /r/JapanTravelTips.
**Rule #3: Itinerary posts must be identified and detailed.**
No barebones itineraries. No messy, unsorted lists of activities. If you need to fill the gap itinerary, the answer is there in the resources. Again /r/JapanTravelTips, weekly discussion thread or Discord works.
Also: put your itineraries in the body of the post. Linking to images or Office documents is very much not recommended.
**Rule #4: No posts that primarily focus on individual establishments or services.**
No separate threads about buying specific stuff. No separate threads about particular accommodation, shops or restaurants. Feel free to ask such questions in weekly discussion thread.
Note that the emergency questions (beyond items found in your nearest drugstore) regarding services might be allowed (or will be directed to the weekly discussion thread).
**Rule #5: No self promotion.**
Self-explanatory. Absolutely no self-promotion. You can directly link images or galleries, when appropriate, but no links to blogs, services etc. – regardless of its commercial use.
**Rule #6: No standalone meet-up request posts.**
Absolutely no meet-up requests or questions about how to meet people outside the monthly meet-up thread or meet-up channel on Discord.
**Rule #7: No solicitation posts.**
Outside of ticket resale that is allowed by issuer in a monthly meet-up thread or appropriate Discord channel, absolutely no solicitation posts or comments, including DM requests.
This rule might be waived only in actual emergencies, though we still recommend using weekly discussion thread or Discord.
**Rule #8: No “meta” posts about this subreddit.**
We only discuss posts/comments with original poster. End of story.
**Rule #9: Keep content legal and PG-13 rated.**
No questions about gambling, procurement of sexual services, circumventing Japanese law, underaged drinking, trespassing. No questions about working or volunteering on temporary visas. This includes remote working.
**Rule #10: Be civil.**
Cussing at mods in modmail will get you perm banned.
**Rule #11: Trip reports are welcome on this subreddit.**
Make a genuine effort to make your report personal, well-written, not a collection of tips or one sentence reviews.
**Rule #12: No standalone posts about border policy or visas.**
You are free to discuss related issues in our weekly discussion threads, however, we recommend directly contacting your local Japanese embassy or consulate. This include also customs rules and questions regarding bringing in specific medication to Japan.
If you bring medication to Japan, please research, whether the medication or its active substance has been approved in Japan and is not on any of the scheduled lists.
Note that most ADHD medication with the exception of Concerta is either on those scheduled lists/banned in Japan. A *Yakkan shoumei* is also not likely to be issued for a treatment that has not been approved in Japan.
