N5

Hi everybody,

Can you prepare enough for the first JLPT exam by yourself or do I need classroom lessons?

When studying for N5 for JLPT what books are recommended? And how much Kanji is involved?

  1. It can be done. It’s not hard to find comprehensive books for it that include the kanji etc.

  2. Just go through a normal textbook like Genki. Genki I is about equivalent to N5.

Btw be aware that there are no official grammar, vocabulary, or kanji lists for the JLPT. Any that you see are guesswork, so don’t take them as gospel. The test is one of your comprehension skills, which any good textbook will train.
