Learning with manga question, also language acquisition questions

Hello everyone. I recently just came back from Japan after studying abroad. My Japanese is pretty decent but I wish to improve my reading. I bought the first 10 volumes of JJK when I was living in Japan, because its one of my favorite manga series that I’m fully caught up with. I thought it would be a fun way to study, but the thing is I’m not sure how to study this way. Should I re read things or? Like I want to know whats most effective.

My comprehensible input question is are Japanese subs needed? In Japan it was easy to watch things on netflix with Japanese subs with Japanese subs, in the US its harder to find. I have crunchyroll.

Also I recently got persona 5 for my switch, its an American copy but I have the audio switched to Japanese. Since the text is in english will that screw up the language acquisition process? Or is it beneficial? I’ve been trying to not look down at the english when they’re is audible dialogue.

  1. Re: input

Input should be approximately 80 to 90% understood. If you’re relying on subtitles, it’s too advanced. If you can understand most of the show without them, you’re good.

  2. Reading English text is not immersion, and even if you try to ignore it, your eyes will naturally drift back there. You won’t gain *nothing* by listening to the Japanese, but you won’t gain half as much as if the text was in Japanese too.
