Does age matter a lot in Japan?

Hey guys, I’m a 28 year old women and I moved to Japan in December in the Roppongi area and will begin working here in Law related work soon.

I was wondering how big age plays a factor in meeting people here? I’ve seen on dating shows in Japan they pretty much consider women to be old after 30. Will I be treated differently considering I’m nearly 30 and single?

Sorry if this seems like a dumb question, I have very few connections here and am concerned about making new friends at this age here.

  1. Honestly the fact that you’re not Japanese will play more of a factor than your age. There will be Japanese men for whom you will never register on his radar, those who will be interested but be too afraid to approach for fear of rejection, and those who will try to fetishize you due to preconceptions about foreigners. If a guy has a genuine interest in you, age will probably not be that much of a factor.

  2. More than other countries? Sure. Theres an element of machismo here where succesful men often want a younger trophy girlfriend or wife, but not all men are that shallow.

you shouldn’t let “only having two years left” force you to settle, but its also worth being realistic. A lot of men that would want to date an older succesful woman are looking for a sugar momma. But some of them are just people who are comfortable in their own skin and want to date someone on their own intellectual level.

So yeah, the pool is gonna be more limited but its not nonexistent
