How easy would it be to get my medications in Japan?

Going to language school in APril for 3 months. Trying to figure out if I should really go or not based on if I can get my meds.

I have several mental health issues. I get a monthly shot for schizophrenia, take meds for OCD and anxiety (xanax). I could probably get a prescription for 90 days with my OCD meds. And xanax I can do without. Having a panic attack isn’t THAT bad. But I need the shot every month, I can’t like stock up on it for the trip. I talked to the liaison for my school and he said something about traveler’s insurance. Not sure if I need that since I full coverage by the American veterans affairs. But I don’t know how hard it’ll be to convince a japanese doctor that I need these things. My biggest concern is the shot. Theoretically I could ask my doctor for a pill that I take daily, but t reset my progress and try out a new medication with such a short time until I gotta get there isn’t a very good idea.

  1. I’d say it’s fairly unlikely that you’d be able to get re-diagnosed and re-prescribed the same medication in the short time that you’d be here. That’s assuming of course that the medications are even available here.

You’ll also need to check that your VA coverage would apply while you’re abroad. Travel insurance may be prudent.
