Nisei or Sapporo for a few nights

Niseko or Sapporo for a few nights?

I’m planning a future winter trip in December but not sure whether to stay in Niseko or Sapporo. I only have a few days coming from Tokyo. I do want to try the fresh seafood, Hokkaido milk, and any other recommended specialties/restaurants. I’m too scared to drive in the snow so would prefer to take bus/train. I need help deciding which place is more convenient.

Pros For Niseko, I researched that it’s mostly for skiing which I’m open to despite the fact that I’m horrible at it. But the person I’m traveling with would like to experience skiing in Japan( and can actually ski). I would like to stay at a ryokan and the only Hilton in Hokkaido (Hilton credit card so the loyalty points are a draw). JR Kutchan seems convenient from the airport and to get around.

Pros For Sapporo, it seems like a bigger city. There are more restaurants I have bookmarked there for sushi, omakase. JR Sapporo train station looks fun and convenient.

I don’t have too much time in Hokkaido. Which one would be best for a short time in Hokkaido?

If Sapporo, itinerary:

Day 1 in December 26
– arrive from Tokyo to Sapporo CST airport
– check in hotel, Solaria hotel
– eat a snack at JR Sapporo Station
– hotel onsen to wind down from travel

Day 2 December 27
– Hokkaido Ramen
– Hokkaido ice cream at Sapporo station
– Sapporo beer garden and grilled lamb buffet

Day 3 December 28
– one of the beer factory tours
– omakase restaurant

Day 4 December 29
– check out, fly back tokyo

If Niseko, itinerary:
Day 1
-stay at ryokan near Niseko for one night

Day 2
– check in to hotel in Niseko
– walk around ski village
– ski or attempt to
– hotel onsen if I survive the skiing

Day 3
– ski some more or snow sports
– Hokkaido Ramen for lunch
– Hokkaido ice cream
– restaurant for seafood
– hotel bar

Day 4
– check out fly back Tokyo

  1. Literally in Sapporo right now, and its outstanding.

It’s not as pretty as some of the other places we visited, but the mountains are still gorgeous in the background.

Been very impressed with the food, and it’s even cheaper here to eat well than other parts of Japan that we visited.
