Hi everyone! I am heading to Japan next month and plan to catch the Sunrise Izumo train from Tokyo-Izumoshi.
So, I plan to purchase either the SOLO or SINGLE room option on JR wests website. I just had two questions.
1: I know some booking systems make you book the the train for the day it arrives, but is the Sunrise Izumo a day you book your departure day or arrival day?
2: If you have travelled on this train before, how was it for you? which room style did you book and would you upgrade/downgrade if doing it again?

I input my departure time from Osaka station (12:30am on Thursday Nov 24) to get the Wednesday night ticket I wanted. The JR West website lets you search by departure too.

I got a Single compartment. I would get a Single again. I found it very hard to *stand* on the Sunrise Izumo (it was shaky), so anything more than a bed to crash on seems a bit excessive.
I took this train from Izumo to Tokyo Nov last year. I got a single and think it’s the right choice.
Solo is very small.
Single deluxe too hard to book…
Bought mine on arrival, two weeks in advance. Only smoking car left. It was fine though, didn’t smell anything.
