Does anyone know any crime/mystery series in Japanese like for example CSI, Bones, Without a Trace or Only Murders in the Building? If so, where can you watch them?

  1. /u/Resultrealistic2575 This might not be what you’re looking for exactly (I.e. True Crime/ Crime tv series), buuttttt the anime – Detective Conan (Meitantei Conan/Case Closed) is great – an excellent show!!

  2. Furuhata Ninzaburō is mostly up on YouTube as it is older.

    To quote the Wiki:

    >Furuhata Ninzaburō (古畑 任三郎) is a Japanese television series that ran periodically on Fuji Television from 1994 until its final episodes (specials) in 2006.[1] It was written by Japanese playwright Kōki Mitani[2] and is often referred to as the Japanese version of Columbo.[3][4]

    >Pop-stars like Takuya Kimura of SMAP (boy-band),[5] television hosts like Sanma Akashiya (variety) and even sports figures like Ichiro Suzuki (baseball) have been featured on this program.[6]

It’s comfort food watching for me at least, and was crazy popular

  3. 真犯人フラグ has been popular recently! You can watch it on Japanese Hulu (requires a separate account from US Hulu)

Ryosuke’s life is purpose. He has a beautiful wife, lovely kids, and is in the process of building a house. It’s a perfect life – that is until he comes home one day to find that his wife and kids have disappeared without a trace. As the search for his family kicks off Ryosuke finds himself at the center of a national news story, with sympathy pouring in from around the country. However, it’s not long before sentiments change and Ryosuke himself starts to come under scrutiny. Desperate to clear his name, Ryosuke sets out to uncover what happened to his family.

I like this one a lot! (Though I’m not very far into it). Police procedural can be kind of hard to understand because legal and forensic Japanese is really difficult. This show is nice because it focuses on the father, so not much legal language used

  4. I’m not aware of many Japanese “crime” shows (like CSI, Bones, Law & Order), but there are a TON of Japanese “mystery” shows (think Murder She Wrote, Poirot, etc.). A few have already been mentioned. There are many, *many* more if you go looking for them.

    Please watch *Trick*.

  5. You can watch emergency interrogation room. I watched on Netflixs and thought it was great.

  6. If you’re up for watching a parody of mystery shows, Meitantei no Okite is hilarious. There is also Trick, a very quirky little mystery show.

  7. I watched Aibou 相棒 on Asahi for quite a few years. The first few years were particularly good. The New Year specials also. Great characters and acting.

  8. Tokyo Vice on HBO is partly in japanese, but mostly in english. Maybe 70/30?
