When/How to use こちらこそ

Hey guys, my boyfriends recently started learning Japanese on Duolingo and he learnt that こちらこそ means ‘likewise’ and questioned why I corrected him to say わたしも instead of that. for context i said 疲れた and he wanted to say “me too”. I’ve been learning Japanese for a while and currently reside in Japan but haven’t really heard こちらこそ being used so his question stumped me.

  1. I usually only hear こちらこそ when it’s something like, A says thank you and then B says こちらこそ like, “no, thank YOU”. I feel like it’s more like “same to you” rather than “me too” which is why it doesn’t work with 疲れた。
