I need a new US phone number to apply for jobs back in the States and I’m not really sure how to get a US phone number. My old one has been given to a relative back home and I can’t use it.
I’ve checked previous posts and they recommended either Google Voice or Skype. However, the current Google Voice on both the American app store and Japan app store gives a “not available in your region” error. Should I use a VPN?
I’ve tried Skype Number but could not get it to accept my Japanese credit card or Google Pay for payment and I’ve given up.
What are my options?

Use a free phone app. Works fine.
Can you sign up for PayPal? Skype takes that…
I use my Aeon card for Skype billing and it works.
A VPN probably works. If you choose an American google voice number, your IP should also be in the US.
