i just found a post about the difficulties of having bright hair in japan in terms of jobs. i will be in japan the next uk academic year for 9 months for a year abroad studying and i have long pink hair which i’ve had for about 6/7 years. if i don’t plan on working while i’m there, will it be an issue in terms of socialising and uni life? i hadn’t considered this being an issue before. cheers.

Anything that is different to social norms of a country will always cause bias in multiple forms.
Location, type of Uni, etc… are all factors which will determine how much of an issue it may be.
However when it comes to work and professionalism, going against social norms will not do you any favours.
