English teacher as a German

Hi everyone

I wanted to work in Japan, preferably Tokyo for 1-2 years to experience the culture and to challenge myself.

I am currently studying at an university in Germany to become an English and economics teacher. I have a bachelor degree in English linguistics. Additionally I am pursuing a masters degree in English linguistics with a focus on teaching, which I’ll get this summer.
I have had several TEFL courses in Uni and plenty of pedagogy courses. I also worked as an English tutor for 4 years for 1st to 12th graders. I also taught English and economics at a German school for several months.

How likely can I land a job as an English teacher or a similar job as I am not a native speaker?

Thank you so much in advance!

  1. You’ve got decent chances, I think. Just apply to jobs, see what happens. I would recommend getting a TOEFL or IELTS certification (with a convincingly chunky high score).
