  1. This may sound stupid but is it possible to learn how to speak Japanese without having to learn how to read and write it? Basically if all I want to learn is how to verbally communicate in Japanese and no interest in learning how its written, is that possible?

  2. What’s the difference between 人気 and 有名 ? As far as I can tell both mean popular/famous

  3. What are some options for me moving forward with my Japanese? I’ve completed Genki 1 and 2, I’ve done the Core 2k and I’ve also completed the Tango N5 and N4 MIA decks just to be sure. I read Easy NHK articles relatively easily although there is a fair bit of vocabulary I don’t know.

I want to take a more immersive approach but unfortunately I’m really not into anime or manga. My original reason for learning Japanese was to be able to watch unsubbed owarai but I find that most geinin are speaking fast and in Kansai ben and I just can’t understand them at all.

I’m really not sure where to go from here. To be honest, I still feel like a complete noob at Japanese when it comes to anything other than reading.
