Itinerary Help/Check – 5.5 Days in Tokyo

Hello! Traveling with my wife (28y/o) to Tokyo at the start of February from our first trip to Japan (or anywhere in Asia). We are pumped but totally overwhelmed with what we should do on our trip. Here is what I have so far. Would love some recommendations for an additional potential day trip, any restaurants that we must hit/, and any other suggestions, especially given we are going in the winter.

Also, any good museums? We would love to learn more about Japanese history and culture.

EDIT:

We are very interested in good food and drink. Love to go to museums and learn about the culture and history of the cities we visit, as well as go visit historical landmarks. We aren’t so much into the gaming/anime scene. We do enjoy going up to tall buildings and seeing the views of the city (so skytree, etc may be good). We have only done US (where we live) western Europe and tropical islands, so we are super interested in just immersing ourselves in a totally different culture than we have ever experienced.

Thanks in advance!!

  1. If by J-pass you mean JR pass, then no, you would have to take hundred of local train to make it worth.

  2. day trips on such a short trip don’t make a ton of sense to me just for the fact that you’ll be sitting on a train instead of exploring/eating/shopping etc.
Hakone is a short trip and seems doable, but i would leave the rest of your time to Tokyo.

I would do Asakusa on a different day as well as there is a lot to see around that area (Senso-ji, Nakamise, Kappabashi) you can even walk over to the Tokyo Skytree by crossing the Sumida River.

Consider doing TeamLab Planets one day as well! A cool interactive art “museum” as another indoor activity since it might be chilly.

It would help to know what you guys are interested in; this itinerary barely scratches the surface of any of these areas.

  3. Hi! I’m also in the same situation with 5 days or almost 5 days, and for a day trip Yokohama seems good, and its not far from Tokyo, for the rest of the days u should enjoy Tokyo as much as u can. thats how i have it planned
