Which one is cheaper: hot water generated by electricity or gas?

I have a washer that’s capable of heating water intake to 40C and 60C.

However, I also so have a gas-heated faucet capable of supplying hot water to the washer.

Just wondering which heating method will save me more money this winter?

Additional context: My gas is from Tokyo Gas.

  1. I will put my bets on electricity, but I could be wrong.

After the price hikes we had, 1KW is around 43y now.
So, a washing machine that heats water will use around 800w per hour.
Even if you run the machine for 1 hour, you won’t even spend 43y on electricity.

And it probably only uses 800w when filling the tank, after that it’s probably around 400w which is the average usage for most machine.

  2. The absolute cheapest will be the cold wash by default and only use hot water for stuburn stains.

Next to be technical, the gas will be cheaper than a resistance based heater. You might have a hard time using that as the washer itself is easier.

Now if you have an EcoCute then electric is cheaper than gas.

But still, if you want to save money use cold water for your cloths.

  3. One could simply wash their clothes in cold water but this will kill people apparently…
