I’ve still not heard anything since being accepted as an AC, and I’ve become pretty disillusioned with the whole process (already been rejected once before). It’s a bit of a hassle getting the health check, and I’m wondering whether it’s possible that I could hear back from them before having submitted the Certificate of Health.

Yes. I was upgraded 2 weeks after being given alternate, and the only thing I submitted at that point was the reply form.
Being offered a position I believe comes from Jet/Contracting company. Certificate of Health is for your Work Visa that is set up for you.
I’ve seen a few upgrades pre-CoH. I’d be mindful that the document deadline for just about everywhere is *soon*, so if alternates have the same deadlines you’ll want to be on top of that.

I was upgraded 2 weeks after people got their notices. All you need to do is the reply form isn’t it? Unless you’re upgraded, you don’t need to do the other paperwork like fbi check and coh etc.
If it’s before the submission deadline for the COH then yes, you can be upgraded without submitting it. After the deadline, depends on your consulate and their rules.
I got upgraded with just having the reply form submitted! So yes, it’s very possible!
