how long for Cashback?

How long does it normally take to receive Cashback from internet providers? I was told that it’d take around a year to receive and I was like wtf, is it normal to take that long? I asked why and they told me that it’s the norm and all companies are like that

  1. It’ll be in the fine print. When we signed up with biglobe years ago, we got some relatively quickly, like a month or two give or take, then had to apply for the rest within a particular window. The application was easy enough, just click through a few hoops on their homepage, but no doubt some people forget or can’t be bothered.

  2. Speaking from experience, for Biglobe, I was eligible for the cashback (around 50k) after 1 year. and I was successfully able to receive it.

As to whether that’s normal, [a cursory look at kakaku](https://kakaku.com/bb/ranking/?bb_houseType=2) says that for providers offering a cashback, the cashback eligibility ranges from 2-12 months.

  3. I don’t see what’s strange about it. They want you to stay for at least a year. otherwise people would just sign up take cashback then break contract and pay smaller fee. profit.

  4. Your wording is strange, it is not “it’s going to take one year to receive cashback”, but “you’ll get cashback after using the provider for one year”, the cashback itself is going to arrive one month after you fill the form.

  5. I got my cashback after about 2 months on UQ. Honestly I don’t like the convoluted cashback and time-limited discounts system here. It’s obviously designed to be confusing so that you lose track of what you’re supposed to be paying when.

I remember with UQ they were like “well the standard fee is X, but if you apply the giga-wari you get this, and if you apply the max-wari it’s this, and then you can get 40,000 yen cash back after 2 months, but there’s a cancellation fee of 20,000 yen if you don’t cancel on this extremely narrow cancellation window”. Thing is then you need to clarify that those giga/max wari etc are permanent or just time limited. I.e. whether my monthly payment is going to shoot up after 12 month or something. It’s a big stinking load of shit and should be outlawed.

I miss three mobile contracts in the UK where it would just be a fixed (reasonable) amount, no fuss no opt-ins or opt-outs.
