Visa options when unemployed?

Currently unemployed (quit 2 weeks ago) with a Specialist in Humanities visa expiring in April. Been searching for job in japan but no luck yet… so I’m starting to feel desperate atm..

Since i didn’t graduate from a Japanese university/language school, I understand the Designated Activities Visa generally isn’t for me based on the immigration website (correct me if im wrong).

And since the covid situation isn’t bad in my home country, im assuming I can’t use the reason of covid (and not being able to return home) to obtain a Designated Activities Visa.

I just wish to have more time for job searching in Japan and also to make preparations for moving out of Japan.

Is changing to a tourist visa my only option??? I’m more reluctant to changing to a tourist visa since I understand it would be harder to get a job in Japan..

Thanks for helping out:(

This is why you don’t quit until you have another job lined up or are ready to go back to your home country.

Immigration considers actively looking for a job to be “working”, so you have until the end of your current status (April).

Changing to a temporary visitor status would make it basically impossible to find a job, unless they’re ok with waiting for you to go back to your home country, apply for the visa, and then come back.

You have until April. Next time don’t quit your job 3.5 months away from status expiration and without a new job lined up.

  2. We cannot assume that OP quit himself, heavy criticism and basically no help at all. And even if he/she did, im pretty sure that there were reasons to it, Anyways, I would suggest the only possible option i can come to think, student visa. Its either this or maybe try to renewal the current visa somehow

  3. Don’t despair. It’s only been 2 weeks and the New year was last week. A lot of places only started returning to the office mid-last week. You still have 4 months to find a new job. Keep applying.
