New neighbours moved in the floor below me beginning of December. They have a child that runs around constantly during the evening sometimes until 1am. I often also hear screams and raised voices. It is so loud. This is my first time living in Japan. How should I deal with this situation? I wake up early to go to work and cannot stand this any longer. My Japanese is N3 level but speaking is my weakest.

There’s pretty much nothing you can do about it. Neighborhood noise is a common problem in Japan and most Japanese people just tolerate it. Confronting neighbors in this culture is a big no-no.
Do it the Japan way and call the police.
Yeah not much you can do with the kid being loud. That kinda stuff happens. My kid is loud as hell sometimes too. Hard to control all the time .
If you’re renting then you should contact your landlord. They’ll probably send out a letter to everyone in the building. Sometimes this has some effect.
I’ve called my management company before for something regarding my contract and they asked me if I needed anything else, I said “yeah btw, I can sometimes hear my neighbors at 1 am. Not loud but I’m a light sleeper”. After that I never heard them again. Get a friend who speaks japanese to call?
I’m living in a shared house, the guy next to my room comes home around 11pm, then starts gaming at around 2am until 5 or 6am with very loud talking…
Also absolutely 0 attempts at being even remotely quiet when walking/using doors/placing down things/making random noises.
I don’t understand how people can be like this
Thankfully I’m a pretty deep sleeper and only notice when going to bed late or when waking up for a quick pee during the night
