Hi there!
I’m an absolute newbie in the Japanese world. However, I’m longing to take it seriously by sitting the JLPT exams and reach higher levels! My principal goal in 2023 is obtaining the N5 title, so it goes without saying I’m not willing to skip any levels.
In Madrid (Spain), the JLPT exams take place in July and December. Having organized myself pretty well, I’m expected to finish what I need to learn about N5 by June. I would have completed Genki I and other vocabulary and kanji text books.
Is this enough for me to take it in July and get rid of the N5 level? Or should I get into more advance resources and wait until the December summons?

If the test fee is not a burden on your finances, I always recommend taking twice a year, until you get the level you want.
JLPT is also about practice and time management. The test follows a fixed structure that you need to get used to.
This also means that the JLPT is not an accurate measure on your proficiency in the language. It is not uncommon to find advanced Japanese learners who struggled with the JLPT and vice versa, and that is because the ones who succeeded generally had more practice on the contents specific for their level, especially the vocabulary, grammar and listening.
Oh listening is all about practice. It doesn’t matter whether you live in Japan or watch anime effortlessly, if you don’t get used to the JLPT listening questions, chances are you will have a hard time understanding what to do on your first attempt.
