Been in Japan for close to a decade and married, with no kids, and no PR. Considering moving to another country for work. Will come back to Japan within a few years.
What happens to
* Mortgage for home?
* Japan drivers license
* Car bought in Japan

You gotta keep paying your mortgage. So keep your Japanese bank account with enough money to pay that mortgage, taxes and insurance while you’re away. OR if your mortgage allows, rent it out to where the rent pays for all that with hopefully a bit extra on top.
Nothing changes with your license but you will need to renew it in person.
Same with your car. You could sell it. If you don’t want to sell it, you’d need to pay to store it somewhere as well as pay the year taxes and keep the shaken up to date. Not driving it will not be good for it though.
Pay it off/keep paying/sell it and pay off the remaining
It expires.
Sell it and take care of any remaining money owed on it.
None of this magically goes away if you leave.
if you don’t pay the mortgage, the bank will take back the house.
If you don’t turn up to renew your licence, it will expire and I don’t know the process for renewing after expiry.
If you don’t pay your tax or maintain the inspection certs it will be illegal to drive the car on public roads. Also, where are you going to leave it?
