  1. ~$20 USD at current exchange rates anyway. Soup was included as well. Photo is from when I spent a week over there around Thanksgiving.

The couple times I’ve been to Tsukiji (2019, 2022) it’s busy as hell and hard to maneuver around or find an open spot. You’ll know Tsukiji-ya (鮨処 つきじや on Google Maps) by an older gentleman standing outside hawking flyers with “1000 yen discount.” Of course, if it’s 1000-yen discount all the time, it really isn’t a discount, but whatever 😂

It’s hard to know how to even begin to evaluate these places as a visiting American. Relative to what I’m accustomed to in the US, the variety of options of stuff you can order a la carte is absolutely staggering, and the quality is all quite good. And yet relative to other places in the area, in Japan, this might only be average.

For as much as a crowded zoo Tsukiji can be to navigate, if you’re in Tokyo I think it’s one of those things that’s just worth experiencing.

  2. What is the white/tan fish on the right side of the plate with the eel sauce? Looks slightly torched. All of it looks great!
