Has anyone had any interactions with the Japanese man who aggressively asks for money at Shibuya Station?

I’ve had 4 different interactions with him. He usually targets foreigners and tries to speak English before he asks for 100-300 yen. But sometimes he will grab your arm or a piece of clothing to talk to you.

He’s middle-aged wears glasses, a goatee, and medical patch over his cheek.

  1. You may also want to try asking in /r/Tokyo.

  2. Put headphones on, keep walking. Shout “dame” if he touches you. Otherwise treat him like air. If he won’t go away, there is a koban on the hachiko side. Walk him there and point him out to the cops.

Any Japanese person on the street speaking English with you, especially in Tokyo, is unfortunately immediately suspicious. Because the majority would rather chew off their dominant hand. 9 out of 10, they want something. To bring you to their delightful religious sect, to sell you on an izakaya, or to take your money. Don’t interact if you can help it. Risk pissing off the one nice person by just walking on.

  3. Oh that creepy guy. He gives me shivers. He’s been there for years, many years. Nothing much more to add.

  4. I’ve had interactions with a similar guy. I just say I don’t have money and he goes away 😂
