If ‘treasure trove’ means you have a lot, it’ll be cheaper to buy a dedicated slide/film scanner and doing it on your own, and you’ll probably get better scans (bit depth, resolution).
Another alternative is something like Nikon’s offering–a gizmo that attaches to the front of their macro lens, letting you take a picture of your slide. This attachment is not very expensive but really only works with a nikon macro and a full frame sensor–the physics/optics don’t work on other brands/sensors.
