Alternatives to KKLC for missing Kanji?

KKLC has been pretty useful for memorizing kanji, but I just encountered 綺 in Tango N5 and it doesn’t appear in KKLC, is there another alternative or should I just try to create my own mental stories for these cases?

  1. KKLC consists of the Jouyo Kanji and some extras. Looking at the dictionary, it’s not one of them which explains why it’s not there.

Looking at it, I couldn’t think of any words that use it except 綺麗 (which sometimes is written with Hiragana only), and the dictionary confirms my thoughts so I’d advise just learning this word as is and not fussing about this individual kanji.

  2. 綺 [arch][n][JMdict (English)]

    thin twilled silk fabric

    readings: き、かんはた、かにはた

I learned 綺麗 (きれい) on its own as a vocabulary word that means beautiful/pretty.

  3. you shouldn’t require KKLC for anything, it provides a framework for making up stories and provides examples. if you make up your own, they’ll always be better than someone else’s for you
