VPN newbie. I want to watch Japanese local channel TV shows.

I’m trying to learn about VPNs and I just don’t understand it and am looking for some help.

I live in the US and I would like to be able to watch some Japanese channels like TBS, Fuji, Tv Asahi, TV Tokyo as well as access Japanese only shows that they stream on Netflix japan and Hulu Japan.

I would like to watch this on my Samsung TV which I have internet access on (a smart tv) as well as fire stick. I’ll buy anything else like Roku if needed. I’m not looking to watch it on my computer or a illegal streaming service or like YouTube.

I think I just don’t understand the concept of what VPN is and where I’m supposed to download it, install or whatever you do with it.

Any help is appreciated.

  1. I would recommend using this free[ iptv list](https://github.com/iptv-org/iptv) that has Japanese channels.

I don’t know how you could get it on your TV but it works for VLC on desktop.

First, download VLC, then go to Media on the top left, then Open Network Stream. Paste in either of the following links, then press play.

Assuming VLC on your smart tv accepts live streaming over the web, this should work in theory too.

    Enjoy your free TV!
