Parking certificate address

I know this is a strange questions, but does the police check your address when applying for the parking certificate? I know they come by to check out and measure the parking spot, but do they also confirm your address (other than looking if you filled it in) or send you mail?

  1. Your parking spot *may* not need to be your address (not too sure there because we have a drive at our house so my registered parking spot is my address)

But Your driving license address should match the address on your resident card/juminhyo. And your resident card/juminhyo address should match the place you actually reside at as your domicile/Jusho in reality.

Like I think it’s a very strict legal requirement to keep the address on your driving license up to date with reality. (It certainly is with your juminhyo/resident card). Could probably cause some insurance issues in case of accidents too.

However, If I recall you’re on a WHV though? (i recognize your user name from the MyNumber card question the other day). Which yea, causes problems with owning a car in Japan given the nature of the WHV making it difficult to set up a domicile address and the requirements of car ownership (insurance, shaken, the driving license it self all needing to be registered at an address)

Maybe just stick to renting a car and driving on your home country license + IDP whilst you’re on a WHV?

  2. Probably depends on the city where you live. In this city they check the residence address with the parking address. If they don’t match they verify with the property owner or manager that you have permission to park there.

  3. If your parking spot is already registered they can pull it up and give you the certificate on the spot. Since it sounds like you’ve got one in a different location you should have a lease or something that shows you’re renting it. Bring that to the big police station that services your area and they’ll show you the right window to get it.
