8 days in Tokyo and Kyoto (Itinerary check)

Hello everyone! My sister and I are planning a short trip to Japan in early April. We’re looking to visit Kyoto, Nara and Tokyo. It will be our first time in Japan, so we would like you to help our itinerary with some suggestions.

I also have some minor doubts about trains: does JR pass allow to make seat reservations only when in Japan? Or does it allow to book in advance as well? We are worried that, being peak season, we might not find seating in the trains we’re planning to book.
