Do i need a round trip air ticket to pick up my work holiday visa?

On the Japanese consulate website it says:

>When you come to pick up your validated passport, you must bring the following:
>
>1) actual round trip airline ticket between North America and Japan; 2) minimum $2,500 ($3,500 for married couple) in a BANK ACCOUNT STATEMENT with your name.

But these requirements don’t seem to rationally make sense? The Visa itself can go up to a year but needs to be renewed at 6 month mark. So do i buy a return ticket at the 6 month mark or at 1 year mark? When submitting the Itenary, it’s up to 6 months so that’s what they expect you to have planned. If i buy a return ticket 1 year from now, and for some off chance i don’t get to renew it at 6 month mark then aren’t i fucked? Isn’t that just bad planning?

Also they require you to submit a bank statement but i am already submitting one during the application. Do they want one again?

Anyone have experience picking up their WHV? I am confused about this

If it helps, i am in Toronto. So anyone with experience picking it up there, please let me know

  1. I don’t have specific advice, but two things to say. First is that a lot of stuff about visas on Japan’s embassy websites seem to be written with the assumption of a short term visa (eg. a tourist visa, or for business trips). Not sure why that is, but always check the details for the specific visa you’re looking for (just in case you aren’t).

The second is that the best way to clear up questions like this is to email or call the consulate directly. They usually have a helpline number available somewhere on the site.
