How to apologize after a misunderstanding and missing an appointment?

Long story short, I have some tattoo appointments with a very respected tattoo artist in Tokyo. I’ve been to him a few times before this so we’re somewhat familiar with each other.

However, due to the language barrier, I ended up missing an appointment with him today.

I think he understands what happened, but I feel awful about it. What’s something polite I can do when I see him tomorrow?

  1. Bring him a nice box of treats from a department store food floor or something. Make sure it’s nice quality and get the store to put it in the branded paper bag and keep it good and clean. And after you give it while apologizing just drop it and make sure it never happens again.

  2. Ask about no-show fees, or offer to pay for the missed session if you can afford it.

When I had a similar mishap at work (missed a private lesson due to a miscommunication) I got a box of fancy baked sweets from the department store and had it wrapped up with all the trimmings. They tried to refuse it at first, but I kept pressing until they accepted.

I think I earned a few brownie points for that. Word gets around.
