If you were to choose to work part-time at a Family Mart, Seven-Eleven, or Lawsons, which would you choose?
I currently work M-F 730-430 doing maintenance for 193,000/month with holidays off and 11 personal days/year going up to 20 days after a couple years. I’m tired of it. I hate drive an hour each way to get to work. I leave at 630 and get home at 530 and am completely drained just from the drive and dealing with traffic and idiot drivers.
I want to work closer to home and go to a Japanese language school to get better at Japanese. There are a couple convenience stores in my area that appear to be hiring part time and they all seem to have pretty much the same benefits, so I was wondering if anyone has insight into which chain has a better work culture. I know it’ll be a big pay cut, but if it allows me to get better at Japanese and subsequently a better job than it’ll be worth it. There’s a HelloWork in my area, but my Japanese isn’t good enough to be able to navigate it and there is no English support, another reason to go to a language school

Hello work has a website with job listings and English staff on particular days.
Apply to all three and choose based on the interviewer, as that is the person to whom you will be spending a majority of your time while working.
Most convenience store jobs have similar duties and tasks, so it’s all about your coworkers.
I worked at Lawson during Uni to pay for myself through uni in Osaka.
It was actually a really positive experience, my coworkers were cool and the work load is very chill. Also obviously it’s shift work, so there’s zero overtime or responsibility.
I don’t know if that’s the same for Family Mart or Seven-Eleven. All three are mostly franchise businesses, so it will really depend on the owner of that particular establishment
