Will my student visa application result to rejection if I have different passport details during the COE and visa applications?

I recently received a notification communicated by the relevant office at the university I’m going to to input my details including passport necessary for my COE application.

I’m aware that in most cases, COE processing and release takes about 2 to 3 months (school begins in April).

The thing is, my passport, which is still valid until 2028 got lost. I had already taken care of the application for a new passport (release in 1 month including clearing period).

To avoid any delays later on, and since I do have a scanned copy of my lost valid passport, I’m thinking of using it for my COE application. By the time my COE is issued, I now have a new passport, which I will use for student visa application.

Do embassies have access to the information system used by immigration? Will I get in trouble and better wait for my passport?

  1. Phone the embassy and ask them. This is exactly the sort of question they will be able to answer better than anyone else here.
