Iron deficiency/anemia treatment

Around 7 years ago I had very low ferritin levels and got treated in my home country. Now after seeing my latest blood work, I’m at the same low level I used to be. My current doc doesn’t see this as an issue (their lab guidelines for anemia start at below 5 and mine is at 22).

I had the exact same results back then and I was given IV treatments over the course of 6 weeks and it fixed my problems.

I have extreme fatigue where sleeping doesn’t solve the issue and parts of my hair are falling out.

Are there any clinics in or around Tokyo that offer IV treatments? Or is my only option to take a high iron supplement? Supplements take forever to have an actual effect so I’d prefer IV. I wouldn’t even mind going off insurance.

  1. If it’s only iron deficiency, they sell supplement you can take just for that.

Check on amazon for 鉄分 サプリ, it’s not that expensive, but for IV I’m pretty sure a hospital will ask for a doctor note for responsibility reasons.

  2. Many things interfere with iron absorption. Chief among the common things is excess calcium (milk) and polyphenols (green tea).

Take some iron supplements and avoid milk / green tea for a few hours after.

It’s in Japanese but it seems a lot of clinics do IVs for iron deficiency. However it seems you have to say you have some kind of side effect from the medicine (gastritis, diarrhea, etc) that doesn’t allow you to take the pills, then they might give you an IV.

look for 貧血 点滴 to get related results.
