Study Abroad in Summer

Hello everyone,

Thanks for taking the time to read my post! I will be attending a study abroad program in Tokyo from June 10-July 22. Then I will be staying an additional 2 weeks to travel around Hokkaido. This will be my first time traveling abroad and I am in my late 20’s. Also, my Japanese ability is beginner and will be studying the language while attending school.

With this said, would there be any advice that stands out for somebody in my situation? I do not have a lot of money so I am hoping to be as frugal as possible while still enjoying myself of course. I honestly am not sure what to even ask because of how daunting it all seems to be but I am so excited!
I am hoping to get a good idea of how Japan works during this trip, visit the family grave, cousins and hopefully make connections for the future.

Any words of advice, wisdom or stories from your travels would be appreciated.
