Can you get Visa in a field different from the one you have a degree in?

My situation is as follows. I’ve got an masters degree in psychology, but I’ve been working for over a year now in an IT industry. Would my degree even mean something when applying for an IT (or any other) visa? Or do I have to get an IT degree even if I’m already working in the industry…
