Is moving to Japan worth it?

To start off, it’s just something in the back of my mind at this point but I do believe I’ll try to go through with it and start preparing whenever I can. Basically my “plan” is to finish high school then study at my local community college for 2 years to save up more money for everything I would need then get. Once I make it i’ll study for my bachelors and maybe masters degree for engineering(automotive) at I was hoping Nagoya University in Japan. I don’t plan on living there permanently probably 4 to 6 years, if there’s anything else any of you would add please let me know. Well anyways, for me it’s mostly about studying abroad and exploring something/somewhere new, I live in a small town and honestly I sort of just hate it. I know here even in just California I can get the new experience i’m looking for by moving to a big city here but I feel like idk there’s just more for me to discover and learn in a big city in Japan that I couldn’t learn in my shitty town. I would appreciate any advice on my plan and opinions on if it is worth it, thanks.

If that’s the case then I would strongly urge you to pursue your education there in the US. After you get your bachelor’s in the US you can take a break for a year or two doing something like JET. Heck while pursuing your bachelor’s in the US you could do a study abroad semester or two in Japan.

Japanese universities are pretty much only useful for folks planning on remaining in Japan for the majority of their adult life.

While those credits would transfer to American universities, they almost certainly won’t transfer to any Japanese universities. So you’d be effectively throwing them away. Again, you’d probably be much better off getting your bachelor’s from a US based school.
