Main question:
How many consecutive days of leave is considered reasonable to take in a somewhat traditional Japanese Company as a junior employee (1.5 years) ?
A bit of context, I am a temp employee in a Japanese company, but promised to be permanent employee later this year if approved. No important roles, just helping with day to day tasks.
I’m planning to see family back home around golden week. I have told my supervisor but he only said “no problem”since I know he isn’t allowed to stop me taking leaves. However I don’t want to be a burden or seen as irresponsible. I also went home last year around GW but used most time to work from home, which I regret since I didn’t get to enjoy my time back home and couldn’t see my friends and relatives but didn’t fully present for work either. So this year I decided maybe it’s better to just take full leave instead but shorter time.
Now with crazy plane ticket and higher demand because of tourism, I need to book flights well in advance, but unsure of how many days to take since I couldn’t consult with anyone about this. Will be having 32 days leave allocated, so I’m planning to take 10 days after the GW holidays.

If you are Japanese, 5 days or less, weekends included.
If you are foreign, a full week plus a few days
If you are reasonable, any amount that you can legally take
You have the excuse of being a foreigner going back home to see family so I think 5 days (weekdays) +2+2(2 sets of weekends) = 9 days in total is completely reasonable.
As a temp, they might set the rules or leave it to the company. Check to make sure but if I understand it correctly, whatever the temp company allows is followed by where you work.
I went back to my country for 2 weeks to celebrate Christmas and new year before the pandemic started. I think I took around 5-6 consecutive paid leaves around that time(started dec. 22 then our company started the new years break from 29 to january 4th).
I think its fine with them as long as its reasonable and if you are planning to go back to your home country just tell them around 4-6 months in advance. Of course there is also some urgent situation that you have to go home. That is out of anyones control and you shouldn’t have any problem taking a long leave.
