Dear Redittors,
We are two recently graduated Architectural Engineering students from the KU Leuven in Belgium. We could use some advice from people who have experience with workinig in Japan as a foreigner.
Some context about us: We have always been passionate about Japanese architecture; therefore the two of us completed a successfull thesis inspired on Japanese architecture. Therefore we are eager to start a new journey by doing an internship/job in Japan. Before we start sending out our portfolios we wanted to inform ourselves about the possiblilities. We understand that the work culture in Japan is different and we are prepared to accept these terms (working long days, …).
If anybody has any advice about the questions below we would be very greatful for the help:
1. Since we did our thesis together, we would like to continue to work together in the same firm. We’re a 2 in 1 package. 🙂 We were wondering if this is at all possible, maybe really big architecture firms will hire two people at the same time?
2. If anybody knows any good architecture firms that will accept forgeigner and speak English, feel free to let us know! We have a small list of firm’s we’re planning to contact, but any good leads are greatly appreciated!
Thanks for your time and tips!

I may be wrong but I have done related research on it while I did my own research on 3D design. The Japanese architects you admire may not be architects working in big architecture firms. They usually have small and rarely medium size studio.
Just a heads up, you guys may get disappointed by the big big companies
I don’t know how you can work in architecture without being literate in the local language. This sounds impossible.
