Mt. Shirouma-dake Hike in early June 2D1N

Hi all,

Seeking some guidance on my upcoming trip to Japan. My friends and I (Group of 4) are looking to hike Mt Shirouma-dake in the early June period. We plan to hike up from Tsugaike Nature Park and stay the night at Hakuba Sanso Mountain Hut. We intend to either hike down the Daisekkei Trail or down the same way we came up.

I am a beginner haven’t had much hiking experience prior, but I believe I have the physical capabilities but lack the experience.

I am wondering how feasible it is considering it is pretty close to summer. How much prep will I need. From some research, I understand that it is also still off-season. Will it be covered in thick snow still ? and are the views worth the hike still considering that it is in the midst of a change of seasons.

Appreciate any feedback and advice! Thank you in advance !

  1. To prepare for the hike, I personally did some training. For physical fitness, one should have a high level of endurance and be okay with running 20km within 1 hour 45 minutes or at a similar phase.
