Day trip to Mt. Fuji – not sure how to make my way around.

Headed to Japan this March and would love to take a day trip from Tokyo to Mt. Fuji. I’ve been doing a lot of research and decided what I want to see, but when I put my destinations into Google Maps and search for buses/public transit, the time between each stop is an hour or more. There are some places (like from Oshino Hakkai to Chureito Pagoda) that are only a 15 minute drive, but a 60 minute bus ride with the hop-on-hop-off. I’m wondering if there’s a better way to navigate to and around these areas (including the best way to get there from Tokyo, because we will have JR passes, but I’m not sure if that covers the high-speed bus).

Should I just expect to spend and hour on the bus trying to make my way to each spot? Is taking a tour the better idea, even though I’ll be locked in with the tour group? Would a taxi be accessible or even worth the cost?

Mt. Fuji Day Trip: Leave Shibuya first thing in the morning

* Oshino Hakkai
* Chureito Pagoda
* Mt. Fuji Panoramic Ropeway
* Oishi Park
* Lake Kawaguchi

I’d also love any recommendations for what we “must” do by Mt. Fuji. I have no idea how long the above itinerary will take, either, so ideas on time expectations would be very helpful!
