If you have a translatable name, how should you introduce yourself?

I’m just getting started with learning Japanese, but one question I’m having a bit of a hard time finding an answer too is how you’d introduce yourself if your name is translatable? E.G. if your last name was Fields, Justice, Knight, Bird, etc.

Would you introduce yourself with the direct translations of the word? Or the English version in katakana?

  1. If John Smith goes to Italy, does he introduce himself as Giovanni Ferrari? Nah, just give your name as it is, and in katakana if asked.

  2. I usually say my name and add that it means “x” in that language, so they can call me with the “x” instead if they want.
