Itinerary Check – 11 Days – Tokyo/Kyoto/Osaka

Hello! I will be traveling to Japan for the first time in April. Wanted to post my itinerary here. If you have any critiques or additional ideas, I would really appreciate them!

Day 1: Fly to Tokyo.

Day 2: Land in Haneda Airport around 5:00 PM. Check in Airbnb in Shinjuku (Already booked for the whole trip). Settle in. My goal is to visit the Don Quijote and get a bite to eat somewhere in Shinjuku before the day ends.

Day 3: Visit Nakano Broadway during the day. Explore Koenjin in the evening.

Day 4: Shop and explore in Shibuya. Highlights will be the Mugiwara store and Café Ron Ron

Day 5: Visit Pokémon Center DX in the morning. Explore Akihabara for the rest of the day. Since I heard Akihabara closes around 9:00PM, I plan to leave for Kyoto at night and check into an inn to sleep.

Day 6: Find a café to visit in Kyoto. I want to see Monkey Park. I want to see a temple/shrine near Monkey Park. I was thinking maybe Kurumazaki-jinja Shrine. Go to Osaka in the evening and just hang out in the central city for the rest of the night.

Day 7: Visit Osaka aquarium in the morning. Take a cooking class. Explore Dotonbori and Shinsekai for the rest of the day. Not sure if I should try to go back to Tokyo on this night or go back tomorrow morning. Right now I’ll just plan to stay in Osaka.

Day 8: Return to Shinjuku in the morning. Use this day to take it easy. Explore Shinjuku. Highlight will be to eat at the fishing restaurant in Shinjuku. Should I make a reservation?

Day 9: I am still trying to decide exactly what I should do on this day. Thinking about visiting, Asakusa, Ueno, or Yanaka. I do know that I want to do Memory Lane/Golden Gai in the evening.

Day 10: Explore Shimokitazawa. I’m leaving some space in this day in case there is something I want to go back and see again from a previous day.

Day 11: Fly out of Narita Airport. Flight leaves at 5:30, but I figure I’ll spend most of the day around the airport.

I plan to use the Suica Card during my trip. I don’t think the JR pass will pay off in my case. I plan to rent portable wifi. Will I still be able to get international texts/calls with the portable wifi?

If your’e going to kansai and back it might be worth the JR Pass. Check the calculator.

If your phone is capable, you should look into an esim and skip the portable wifi. You’ll be able to make and recieve wifi calls and data text like imessage or whatsapp.

You should really dedicate a whole day to Kyoto at the very least. You can take a quick 15 min shinkansen ride to osaka first thing in the morning.
