Birth-registration for Norwegians

Hi I was wondering if there is any Norwegians here, who has gone through the process of applying for a Norwegian person-number and passport for their child. If you remember how long the process at the embassy took? And what you have to do at the embassy. Is it just signing a few papers and going over the documents you bring with yourself?

(Sorry for bad grammar)

Edit: By the embassy I mean the Norwegian Embassy in Tokyo

  1. Not a Norwegian, but someone with a child who is an EU national:

    * the birth hospital issues the birth certificate
    * the ward office registers the birth certificate and issues a copy (important step)
    * (after this, the parents no longer have the birth certificate, only registration in Japan)
    * parents take the birth certificate copy to their EU embassy
    * embassy does the rest

    The national id was issued instantaneously and the passport took ~3mo in our child’s case.
