Tokyo 4 nights – 1st day check in and dinner. 2nd day Tokyo highlights and pick up jr rail pass etc. Day 3 hakone day trip. Day 4 nikko day trip (activate jr pass this day)
Yokohama 1 night. Day 5, train to kamaura then afternoon in Yokohama, overnight Yokohama (since someone will no doubt suggest it, no, I’m not doing this as a day trip from Tokyo, no need go back there at this point)
Kyoto 3 nights
Day 6 – train to Nagoya, before dark get train to Kyoto for the night.
Day 7 – Kyoto, day 8 – Kyoto
Osaka 3 nights
Day 9 – train to Nara, then onto Osaka.
Day 10 – Osaka
Day 11 – day trip himeiji castle, then Osaka castle and park
(Not going to spend 6 nights in Kyoto or Osaka as people here often suggest, it will just add extra train travel time every day)
Hiroshima 1 night
Day 12 – train to Hiroshima and miyajima Island
Kanazawa 1 night
Day 13 – train to Kanazawa
Takayama 1 night
Day 14 – bus to Shirakawa-go, then bus to takayama
Day 15 – takayama, then train back to Tokyo for last few nights.
On day 15 it will be day 11 of the jr pass, so not sure if anywhere else I could go before returning Tokyo?
Is Hiroshima and miyajima possible in the 1 day, or should I spend a 2nd night there?
Anything massively wrong with this plan?
