I’m posting this because I recently applied to Sophia University’s Faculty of Liberal Arts (English-taught program, which I know some people have negative opinions towards) as a first-year student and I was wondering if anyone could offer insight into my chances of being accepted. I know that it is completely out of my hands at this point, but I am having mental wars with myself when doubting whether I’ll be accepted lol.
Anyways, my GPA was only 3.2-3.4 (I don’t remember exactly and don’t have access to my transcript at the moment) due to COVID complications and circumstances in my senior year, however I passed both of my AP exams in calculus and computer science, if that means anything (I think that I submitted the scores to Sophia University, but I don’t remember). Contrastingly, I received >93% in all of my three university classes this quarter, even a 101% in one, although I doubt that this will have any influence on my application as I don’t think my university transcript will be seen, but I did note the university I am currently attending in the application. I feel that my GPA is definitely my weakest point. My SAT score is 1410, which I hope will compensate at least slightly. My essay, which I feel will either be the redeeming quality or the final crack in the glass of my application, consists of a small description of my personality (curious, ambitious, open-minded, and passionate), a quick elaboration of the former two and how they connect with my goal to attend Sophia University, reasons supporting why I feel Sophia University would be a good fit for me, my experience with failure and persevering through it, an elaboration of why I want to go to the university and why I would be beneficial to have as a student there, and finally a quick concluding note. I also did acquire the two letters of recommendation necessary, but I’m not sure how important those are in the application, and I also believe that one may have been written with low effort.
I don’t know whether or not this will be seen, and I’m aware that there may not even be anyone in the proper position to respond to this, but I’m hoping that someone will be able to give me reassurance. Having constantly been looking at other people’s experiences and posts on various sites, my doubt/confidence in my application has been on a roller coaster. Thank you for any responses, I appreciate it greatly!
Edit: After checking, I did not submit my AP scores to Sophia University as I felt that they may hinder my application and not be applicable at all because of the faculty I applied to. Further, my GPA ended up being 3.52, but on the transcript it says 3.13 as it includes my grades from 8th grade (a grade prior to high school). I don’t remember if I put 3.13 or 3.52 as my GPA, but I’m inclined to believe I listed the latter. Either way, they will see my transcript and, hopefully, calculate my actual GPA themselves.
TLDR: 3.2-3.4 GPA, 1410 SAT, Strong(?) Essay – Chances of getting into Sophia?

The only people who can answer this question are the admissions staff at the university. But they won’t, because universities generally only publish their *minimum* entry requirements.
While others may post with their particular stats/acceptance status that won’t help you all that much. University admittance is ***very*** subjective. It depends on your application, and the applications of everyone else who’s applying for the same batch.
Just because someone got in with a particular set of grades/test scores doesn’t mean that a different person applying in a different year will get in with the same grades/test scores.
With the dwindling number of Japanese students, English-based programs are popping up everywhere. They are trying to fill the gap ($$) with international students. Admission criteria are (in jest): a bank statement with lots of money, the willingness to be separated from the university proper, and an understanding that your certificate or diploma is not consistently recognized as a degree program, although some universities might transfer the credits.
From what I was told, the bar is set pretty low to get into Sophia’s FLA program as long as you can speak fluent English. But this was 5 years ago so maybe things have changed.
