Apartment Search in Tokyo With Limited Budget

I am moving to Tokyo in few months for a new work which is around Higashi Ueno.

My current 1K apartment (around 20 square meters) only costs around 40, 000 yen monthly where I only pay 20, 000 yen and the rest by the company I am working in.

Currently, looking for an apartment around there and really surprised by the prices.

My new salary is only going to be around the lower tier of 300,000 yen monthly before deductions so it is not really that big by Tokyo standards.

I was planning to get at least a bigger apartment, preferably 1LDK since my current apartment is kind of suffocating me. However, looking at things, 1LDK seems impossible.

Any tips or suggestions regarding apartment search and where to look?

Edit: This is a burner account, that’s why I gave an idea of how much will my new salary be.

  1. You knew your salary was bad for Tokyo, but you thought you could find a 1LDK?

All you can really do is either move further out and/or get a smaller place.

  2. If you don’t mind commuting a bit, going northeast using the Joban line towards like Matsudo Chiba should see some pretty significant price drop. I’d reckon a 35m^2 1LDK in that area shouldn’t exceed 70,000 or 80,000 a month.
