How to say “this thing is from Japan (Japanese)?

I was wondering, for example this sentence: “ Pikachu is Japanese”.
I could translate it as :” Pikachu wa nihonjin desu”.

This raises 2 questions:

1-“jin” (人)means “person” so is this sentence correct for a not-living being?

2 – Maybe it is correct because Pikachu is a famous character, but what about “this tea is japanese”?(literally, it comes from Japan)

  1. キャラ or キャラクター is fine for a cartoon/anime character, as far as I know

  2. Could one say a character is “invented”? I.e.

    ピカチュウは日本で発明されました。
