I’m moving to Tokyo in 2 weeks from southern California, indefinitely, and I’m not quite sure what things I’m going to miss. Is anyone living in Japan who moved from SoCal missing something they didn’t expect that they wouldn’t find in Japan? On the same note, trying to find some stuff to bring to my friends who live there that is uniquely Californian. (God I wish I could just take an entire In-n-Out store with me…)

well, there went my first idea; hahah.
Congrats on making the move from SoCal to Japan. Costa Mesa-ite checkin’ in (714 fistbump).
Maybe the little fridge magnets with surfboards, whales, etc., with >INSERT SOCAL BEACH COMMUNITY NAME HERE< emblazoned thereon?
Back to In-N-Out, maybe some of their trinkets like keychains, bumper stickers, etc.? A few T-shirts (size S!)?
Mandatory Unsolicited Advice: don’t even THINK about edibles.
Also, FYSA, if you get homesick, we have a Carls Jr. in Yokosuka.
Japan doesn’t have Reeses, so if you like those perhaps bring some stock. Also, good deodorant.
Living here you eventually get used to surviving off the land, as it were. Most specific things can be bought off the internet for somewhat inflated prices, or in a pinch, your family and friends can send care packages.
And yeah, fill up on In-N-Out while you can.
